In the realm of contemporary ceramics, this Mata Ortiz exhibition invites audiences to witness the evolution of this distinct style that seamlessly blends tradition with modern and contemporary innovation. Showcasing the artistry of over 25 potters, the exhibit spotlights the generous contribution of early Mata Ortiz ceramics and prints by Juan Quezada by Lysbeth Warren Anderson to the NMSU Permanent Art Collection.

The annual Luna County Fine Arts & Crafts Show will be presented as the May 2024 exhibit at the Deming Art Center. Featured will be local artists and crafters from Luna County. It showcases many different mediums including painting, sculpture, fiber arts, jewelry and more. Anyone living in Luna County is eligible to participate with up to 3 items. The exhibit will be up from May 2-30, 2024 (closed Memorial Day). There will be a time to meet the artists on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 1PM- 3PM. The Deming Art Center is located at 100 S. The Town of Mesilla is full of fascinating stories! From a rich priest with very particular demands, to Billy the Kid and his defense lawyer who disappeared, to a very unique name for the postal line and a deadly riot, the history of Mesilla is vital to understanding the history of New Mexico. Join Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site staff at 10:00 a.m. at the bleachers for a walking tour of the Mesilla Plaza. While the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site is not yet open, this is a great way to learn more about the history of the town of Mesilla and the significance of the site. Did you know Fort Selden Historic Site has gardens? Take part in the care and cultivation of the onsite gardens, learn about the types of gardens that Fort Selden had as an activity military post, and gain an understanding of the importance of agriculture in southern New Mexico. Note: Any active flames or cooking over a live fire is dependent on state and local fire restrictions as well as expected weather conditions and current wind speeds. Demonstration and ranger interaction is included as part of general admission.
The University Art Museum is delighted to present the 2024 Master’s of Fine Art thesis exhibition “Making as Knowing · When I was Here, Thinking of There” featuring an installation by MFA candidates: Karly Jean Kainz and Blanca Martinez. This exhibition is set to open on May 9th and will run through July 20th, 2024. In this two-person show, both artists explore ideas of home and personal ritual through repetitive actions tied together through layered connections to place. Viewers will be immersed in a full sensory experience as each artist transforms the space into their perceptions of domesticity.
The UAM is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm.
The Storytellers of Las Cruces welcome story lovers of all ages to free storytelling sessions every Saturday morning at the Main. St. location. Children who attend will receive a coupon worth up to $3 on any children’s book. Storytellers will be performing at the COAS Solano location (1101 South Solano Drive) on the first Saturday of every month.
