The Storytellers of Las Cruces welcome story lovers of all ages to free storytelling sessions every Saturday morning at the Main. St. location. Children who attend will receive a coupon worth up to $3 on any children’s book. Storytellers will be performing at the COAS Solano location (1101 South Solano Drive) on the first Saturday of every month.
The author, Constance Hasapopoulos, and cast of the audiobook, ROAMERS, will meet with kids and families to describe their experience in the making of this locally produced project. Featured as Barnes & Noble's national Mother's Day promotion, the audiobook is a full cast dramatized listening delight for ages 9-14 as well as adult audiences.
The Asombro Institute for Science Education invites you to Wildlife Wonders: Going Batty! This family-friendly event will take place at Asombro’s Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park on Saturday, July 27 from 7 pm until 9 pm. The event will feature exciting activities such as “Tools of the Trade” and “Conservation Heroes.” Hands-on booths will be themed around New Mexican bats and other nocturnal animals in need of conservation and awareness. Participants will also have an opportunity to meet field experts, go on a night hike, and collect up to three trading cards highlighting nocturnal species in need of conservation. Guests should note that this event will take place during and shortly after dusk, so light will be limited.
Wildlife Wonders is supported, in part, by grants to Asombro from the Carroll Petrie Foundation and the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish Share with Wildlife Program. This event is free to the public but a suggested donation of $5 per person or $10 per family will be welcome.

This family-friendly event will take place at Asombro’s Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park on Saturday, July 27 from 7 pm until 9 pm.Visitors will have the opportunity to see a live bat up close thanks to wildlife rehabber Justin Stevensen of RD Wildlife. Rachel Burke from Bat Conservation International is joining us to talk about their amazing agave restoration project which benefits nectar-feeding bats, and NMSU researcher Dr. Theresa Laverty will also be on hand to share her expertise on these incredible flying mammals.
Visitors can join Dr. Laverty at 8:00 p.m. for an hour-long guided walk with a bat detector (Please note: this 1-mile walk will be on a rocky road with some uphill sections and so may not be suitable for all visitors). For those who wish to stay nearby, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy, including collecting free trading cards, making a bat mask, and visiting our pop-up gift shop. We ask that visitors please bring a flashlight as well as some extra patience as parking may be limited. The entrance gate will be closed at 9:30, so please make sure to exit the park before then.

Visitors of all ages can celebrate the legendary history of outlaw, Billy the Kid during Old Lincoln Days. The annual event takes place Friday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 4 and includes the debut of a new exhibit, lectures, gunfight reenactments, music, food, vendors, kids’ activities and the “Last Escape of Billy the Kid” pageant. Co-presented by Lincoln Historic Site, the Friends of Historic Lincoln, the Billy the Kid Pageant committee, and members of the Lincoln community, this annual weekend-long event celebrates the historic town.
The festivities culminate each day with a performance of the “The Last Escape of Billy the Kid” pageant. Now in its 83rd year, local community members retell the story of the Lincoln County War and Billy the Kid in truly spectacular fashion. Performances will be held on the Pageant Grounds at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is $7 per adult and free to children 16 years and younger. Admission for the Billy the Kid pageant is separate and is $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12, and free to children five and younger. Tickets are only available at the gate beginning at 10 a.m. and cash is recommended.

Join Fort Selden Historic Site staff to see the sunrise over the historic ruins and the Robledo Mountains. Staff will provide a guided tour of the ruins at 9 a.m. and then at 11 a.m. give a lecture inside about birding in Southern New Mexico. The presentation will highlight some of the best places to go birding and why they are great for enjoying one of the most popular recreational activities in the US. Programs included with general admission of $5 per adult. Children 16 years and younger are free.
