You are free to select a "Pathways" track that most benefits you and aligns with your needs and interests.

Founded in 1984, Los Chismosos Toastmasters' membership includes faculty, graduate students, and staff at New Mexico State University as well as people in the business community, retirees, and those new to the area.

Each month on the Saturday closest to the first quarter moon, we do a "Moongaze" event. Members from the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces set up telescopes for the public to view the Moon and any planets that may be up. The event starts at sunset and lasts for around 2 hours depending on attendance.

From wise old owls to powerful eagles, birds of prey (AKA raptors) provide us with some of our most admired icons. If you'd like to up your game on how to tell them apart from other birds and each other, you won't want to miss this. Mesilla Valley Audubon Society board member and hawk expert Daniel Horton will present this free class on raptor identification in the Creative Arts room of Las Cruces Village Senior Living, 3011 Buena Vida Circle, Las Cruces. The class is free and will focus on the birds we usually find in Doña Ana County.

Please join us to hear Dr. Alan Strauss (NOIRLab)In late June, Rubin Observatory began its Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). For the next 10-years, Rubin will relentlessly survey the Southern night skies, creating a detailed timelapse of the Universe. In addition to detecting millions of transient phenomenon each night, Rubin will provide the most complete survey of our Solar System to date; the most detailed map of our own galaxy, and deepen our understanding of the nature of dark matter and dark energy.Dr. Alan Strauss is the Head of Education and Public Outreach (EPO) for the NSF-DOE Vera Rubin Observatory where he leads and interdisciplinary team of astronomers, writers, designers, developers and educators building web-based astronomy experiences for the public. An amateur astronomer by training, Alan earned his PhD from the College of Education at the University of Arizona and perviously worked as the Director of Steward Observatoryês Mount Lemmon SkyCenter and Sky School.

Mesilla Valley Audubon Society is presenting a three-part class on Birding Basics on three consecutive Tuesday evenings, September 1, 8, and 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Creative Arts room of Las Cruces Village Senior Living. The class is free and is intended for those with little or no experience birding.
Topics covered include how to:• Find, watch, and listen to birds• Identify and learn about birds• Record and share your observations• Conserve birds and their environments• Meet and learn from other birders
