October 2026, at the Deming Art Center will feature the annual DAC Membership exhibit. Anyone who is a member of the Deming Art Center is eligible to participate and there will be a diverse body of work on display. The show will run from October 2-30, 2026. There will be a time to meet the artists on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1PM – 2:30PM and the public is invited. The center is located at 100 S. Gold St., in Deming, NM and is open from 10AM – 4PM, Mon – Fri, and 10 – 1PM on Saturday. The Academy for Learning in Retirement's October presentations will focus on "Perspectives on Challenges and Changes in Higher Education." Session presenters and presentation dates are:

Dr. Jay Gogue, Former President of NMSU, University of Houston, and Auburn University - Tues., Oct. 6

Rus Bradburd, Professor Emeritus, English, NMSU and Assistant Coach at UTEP and NMSU - Thur., Oct. 8

Dr. Monica Torres, Current Chancellor of NMSU Community Colleges and President of DACC - Tues., Oct. 13

Dr. Valerio Ferme - Current NMSU President - Thur., Oct. 15

Sessions are held in person at DACC Auditorium - East Mesa, 2800 N Sonoma Ranch Blvd. Sessions are also available via Zoom and recorded.

Coffee and cookies are available in the Student Resources Building starting at 9:40 am. Presentations begin at 10:30 am and last until noon. The fee for one session is $5; $20 for the month; and $48 for the semester (16 sessions).

The annual summit takes place in Silver City this year to explore the challenges and solutions to community wildfire risks and post-fire damage. The WUFS conference is coordinated by the NM Association of Counties and many partners. A free pre-conference workshop helps people learn how to conduct Home Wildfire Risk Assessments.

LCAER is an organization who welcomes any and all people and their families who have worked in any capacity in education, from pre-school to university. We are advocates for the security of retired educators. We sponsor yearly projects to benefit the community, especially students. Our yearly dues are only 10 dollars. Those who are still working can become an associate member and enjoy all the activies we are in volved in. We meet once a month on the second Tuesday of the month. Come join us.

Las Cruces Board Gamers meets every Thursday at NMSU Corbett Center on the ground floor, at the windowed room across from Chick Fil e. We usually meet at NMSU though can also go to other areas depending on school schedule. We often favor medium-difficulty games (pandemic is a good example), and often have a wide variety of options for different tastes. Usually not as much "kill your opponent" games. Free and we'll have games so if you don't have one to bring, that's okay, just bring yourself!

Al-Anon is for family and friends affected by someone else's drinking or drug use.

OPEN CALL FOR ART: MUSICAL VISIONS

All entries must depict, or be inspired by, music: musical experiences, genres, titles or lyrics, musicians, instruments, sound systems and more! Deadline for entry is Oct 15. Art drop off is Nov 23. Show dates are Nov 27-Dec 6. Show location is the Grant County Art Guild Studio, 307 N Texas, Silver City.
