Community Calendar

Join us for our monthly volunteer gatherings, held on the second Tuesday of every month from 9:30AM -10:30AM at the Asombro Institute for Science Education office at 401 E College Drive, Las Cruces. This is a great opportunity to meet other volunteers who have worked in the education and STEM realms, have a shared interest in promoting science among K-12 students in our local schools, and have a passion for contributing to the great community we live in! We work on a variety of tasks such as prepping materials for Asombro's education programs, compiling kits for teacher workshops, assembling items for classroom science experiments, and whatever else is needed to increase natural science literacy through engaging, place-based education!

The University Art Museum is excited to partner with Santa Fe-based, Axle Contemporary, to present E Pluribus Unum: Mogollon in the UAM’s Mullennix Bridge Gallery from June 5-August 20, 2025.

E Pluribus Unum features over 800 portraits from residents across New Mexico that were collected from August 23rd to October 20th, 2024, while artists Matthew Chase-Daniel and Jerry Wellman traveled around South-Central and South-Western New Mexico in Axle Contemporary, a mobile art space and solar-powered photography studio. Join us for the opening reception on June 5, 5:30-7:30 PM. Regular hours are Tues.-Sat. 10 AM - 4 PM.

CRUCES presents a vibrant selection of recent acquisitions to the New Mexico State University Permanent Art Collection, showcasing works added to the collection since 2018. This exhibition brings together an eclectic range of media—including photography, sculpture, video, and even piñata paper and raw earth pigments—highlighting the diversity of the collecting practices and introducing contemporary artistic practice of artists from New Mexico and beyond. The exhibition will open on Thursday, June 5th at 5:30 pm in the University Art Museum, and will be open until August 20th, 2025. Join us for the opening reception on June 5 from 5:30-7:30 PM. Regular hours are Tues.-Sat. from 10 AM - 4 PM.

“World of Cards,” is the theme for the July, 2025 exhibit at the Deming Art Center. This display will showcase the many talents of our local card makers - from greeting cards, to birthday cards, note cards, postcards and more.
There will be a time to meet the artists on Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 1-2:30PM. The exhibit will be up from July 2-30, 2025. Please see our Facebook page, call 575-546-3663 or check out our website at www.demingarts.org for more information.

Encouraging Enlightened Dialogue on Current Events

We meet monthly to learn about topics of interest to the group and to learn about the most recent legislation which concerns retirees in New Mexico.

Al-Anon is for family and friends who have been affected by another's drinking or drug addiction.

Drawing from the University Art Museum's extensive collection of over 2,200 Mexican retablos, Trinities of Heaven and Earth explores the spiritual and cultural importance of these sacred images. Retablos, small devotional paintings traditionally displayed in Mexican homes, served as vital expressions of Catholic faith and values within the household. The imagery of the Holy Family conveys blessings related to family life, while depictions of the Holy Trinity invoke divine guidance. Together, these themes explore the connection between sacred devotion and earthly life, bridging the divine and the domestic.

The exhibition will open on March 21, 2025, at 5:30 pm in the Margie and Bobby Rankin Retablo Gallery, and will be open until March 7, 2026.

The Grant County Art Guild in Silver City, NM, is accepting entries for their annual Creatures of the Gila Wildlife show. Deadline for entry is July 15, 2025. Art drop off is Aug 25. Show dates are Aug 20-Sept 7. The show will be held at the GCAG Studio, 211 N Texas, Silver City. You need not be a Guild member to enter the show.

All entries must depict, or be inspired by, a "creature" (mammal, fish, bird, insect, or reptile) that lives in the Gila River Watershed. All mediums and styles are welcome. The show is a hybrid art/education event as each entry is paired with a description of the actual "creature" on which it is based. (descriptions are written by the Guild). The show draws visitors who are interested in art, plus anyone who wants to learn more about Gila wildlife.

Prizes are $250 for Best of Show; $75 for 2nd place; $50 for 3rd place. A People's Choice award will be announced before the last weekend of the show.
