The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Screens at the Fountain Theatre in Tribute to Terence Stamp
Mesilla, NM – The Mesilla Valley Film Society will present a special screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on Sunday, September 7 at 7:30 PM at the historic Fountain Theatre. This celebrated 1994 film stars Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp, who passed away on August 17 at the age of 87.
A dazzling road trip across the Australian Outback, Priscilla follows two drag queens and a transgender woman aboard their glittering tour bus. The film became a surprise international hit and is now hailed as a groundbreaking work for its joyful and unapologetic portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters, helping bring queer stories into the cultural mainstream.
Terence Stamp’s performance as Bernadette, a transgender woman navigating life and identity with strength and grace, earned widespread critical acclaim. Best known to many as General Zod in the Superman films, Stamp’s career spanned six decades, with acclaimed roles in Billy Budd, Far from the Madding Crowd, The Limey, The Adjustment Bureau, and many more. His work in Priscilla remains one of his most beloved performances, showing a depth and humanity that resonated with audiences worldwide.
The screening will take place at the Fountain Theatre, 2469 Calle de Guadalupe, Mesilla. Tickets are available online at www.mesillavalleyfilm.org
and at the door.
