Filmed in El Paso, Manos: The Hands of Fate has earned a reputation as one of the most notorious regional horror films ever made. Created by a local insurance salesman on a dare, the film is known for its surreal tone, disjointed dialogue, and eerie atmosphere. Over time, it has become a cult favorite for it’s sincere ambition, and accidental strangeness–now, widely studied and discussed as a key example of outsider filmmaking.
