New Mexico's Heritage and Musical Traditions

Rob Martinez Jr. playing guitarron with his father Roberto Martinez and Los Reyes de Albuquerque.

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with New Mexico Deputy State Historian, Rob Martinez Jr., who visits statewide university campuses to bring awareness of New Mexico’s Hispanic culture, musical traditions and general history of New Mexico. He also publishes articles on New Mexico genealogy and culture. For many years he accompanied his late father, Roberto Martinez, in the family band, “Los Reyes de Albuquerque.” Martinez still performs with his brother Lorenzo Martinez.

Martinez presented a lecture at NMSU entitled “The Enduring Musical Traditions of Northern New Mexico.”

For more information visit the Office of the State Historian at www.newmexicohistory.org; and follow Martinez on Facebook.
