Starlight Children’s Theatre takes to the sea with H.M.S. Pinafore

Leora Zeitlin

Young actors and actresses in the Starlight Children’s Theatre Company will don costumes, and for some, English accents, this weekend, as they stage Gilbert and Sullivan’s beloved comic operetta, “H.M.S. Pinafore.” Appearing on stage might seem overwhelming to a particularly shy child. But founder and director Ginger Scarbrough Andersen, says that “every year we have at least one miracle,” when a shy young performer will “just bloom and blossom, and it’s so rewarding.” She and her daughter, Bridget Andersen, who plays Josephine in the production, came to talk with Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin about the enormously popular show, which lampoons the British Navy and the English class system. Performances will take place at the Atkinson Recital Hall this Friday and Saturday, and next weekend.
