Silco Theatre operators Bob Grunstein and Joe Navan wanted to do something special for the community in celebration the Independence Day holiday by offering free showings of The Wizard of Oz.
“The Wizard of Oz is such a classic family movie, we thought it was perfect for the Fourth of July. The showings will start at 12 noon and run continuously until the last showing at 7pm on Saturday, July 3, 2021”, states Joe Navan.
“We know some of our community has not been in the Silco Theatre since it was restored in 2015 and we get a lot of people who walk by and want to see inside the theater. This will be a great day to come by, get your free Love Local popcorn, and watch the The Wizard of Oz in our cool theater.”
The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film often considered as one of the greatest films of all times and has become an American pop culture icon. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning Best Original Song for “Over the Rainbow” and Best Original Score.
The Silco Theater was renovated in 2015 as an economic development initiative of Silver City MainStreet and the Town of Silver City. It is located at 311 N. Bullard Street in the heart of historic downtown Silver City.
