Las Cruces resident accused of threatening to kill Biden

Dona Ana County - John Thornton

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A Las Cruces man is accused of sending text messages conveying threats that included saying he intends to kill President Joe Biden.

Court records say 39-year-old John Benjamin Thornton was arrested Monday. A federal complaint alleges he violated federal law by threatening in communications in interstate commerce to injure another person.

The complaint said Thornton’s phone was in Las Cruces when the texts were sent May 18 to people in Florida and Texas.  A federal public defender listed in court records as representing Thornton did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for comment on the allegations against him.
