On May 5, 2021 at approximately 11:28 a.m. Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a possible decomposed body near Highway 185, mile marker 20, close to Broad Canyon.
A citizen who was navigating his way to Slot Canyon came across the unidentified remains and called for police assistance. DASO deputies arrived on scene and confirmed the remains to be that of an adult male. Possible identification was made by locating a passport on the male. The passport led investigators to believe the male may have been from Ecuador.
At this time, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office will not release the name of the decedent pending a positive identification by the Office of Medical Investigators after an autopsy has been completed. Investigation is ongoing.
