Las Cruces Library to Begin Offering Limited Lobby Service

As part of its next phase of reopening, the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is excited to announce it will begin offering limited lobby service starting Monday, September 14, 2020.  This is in addition to curbside pick-up and the public computer lab services.

Limited lobby service will be available from 1 - 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Patrons will be allowed in the building to return materials, pick up holds and browse new books and selected collections from the Children’s, Young Adult, Media and Periodicals sections. Patrons will also be able to request items from the closed off areas and staff will retrieve them, or they can place a hold on those items from home and pick them up later.

“The library has been following City and State Department of Health guidelines for safe re-opening. Consistent with New Mexico COVID Safe Practice requirements, we feel that we can begin to expand our services to meet public need and do it safely,” said Margaret Neill, Library Administrator. “We are very focused on how we can keep our staff and patrons as safe as possible when in the building. So, while some areas will remain closed to the public, we are working to ensure that patrons can get what they need when they come in.  We are really looking forward to welcoming patrons back to Branigan.”

Per State Health Order and City ordinance, masks are required in public facilities, including the library. The library will provide masks to those who do not have them. Curbside pick-up remains available for those who cannot wear masks.

Curbside pick-up hours remain the same, 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Saturday, and the computer lab is open for limited services, 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Munson and Sage branch locations remain closed.

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is now a New Mexico Safe certified facility. A New Mexico Safe certification means that the Library is committed to ensuring the health and safety of staff and patrons in the building using COVID-Safe practices (CSP).

Library staff are trained in CSP, which includes wearing masks, washing or sanitizing hands, sanitizing high-touch surfaces frequently and maintaining social distancing.
