Las Cruces Utilities Gas Technician Gives Back with Children’s Book

Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) associates are a dedicated part of the local community. Now, one of its gas technicians, Tony Quintero, has demonstrated that spirit of community even more by having just published a Christmas children’s book, with some of the proceeds going to purchase children’s books for local hospitals.

“We really wanted to do something more for children in hospitals,” said Quintero, who over a Christmas break two years ago had the story come to him after watching commercials asking for donations. Instead of just writing a one-time check, he thought that there must be a way to make a more sustaining gift. The book “My Two Snow Angels” releases in two weeks on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The story follows Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves getting ready for their big night, and a magical ride in the sleigh with two children who ask for a Christmas miracle to help a poor city in need. With Santa’s help, charity pours in from around the world for those in need.

Born in Truth or Consequence, New Mexico, and raised in Las Cruces, Quintero has worked with LCU for 13 years and credits some of his LCU coworkers for giving him feedback in their off hours. He also might be familiar to some as a soccer coach; his passion in life is to be a support for others and see them succeed.

“The story is about having children empower themselves to find solutions; they are the future,” he said. “Especially now, with COVID, they might not see themselves as part of the solution, but they can be if they try.”

Similarly, LCU wants customers to empower themselves to get payment help, especially if they think they may have trouble paying their City utility bills. One program administered by the state is LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), which starts accepting applications on August 1 for its 2020-2021 period. If you believe you might need help paying your bill this fall or winter, please reach out. There are solutions available to help everyone in our community succeed. Reach out to our Billing and Receivables representatives at 575-541-2111 to discuss your specific needs for assistance.

LCU can be reached at 575-528-3500 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. LCU provides services to approximately 100,000 Las Cruces residents and businesses.
