Las Cruces Police Earns Re-Accreditation from Statewide Program

The Las Cruces Police Department has received accreditation for the third time from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Professional Standards Council.

The re-accreditation was announced Thursday in Albuquerque and is valid from Dec. 1, 2019, through Nov. 30, 2022. The Las Cruces Police Department is the largest law enforcement agency in New Mexico to be fully accredited by the Professional Standards Council.

“I’m proud of the dedication and hard work shown every day by the men and women of the Las Cruces Police Department,” said Chief Patrick Gallagher. “Receiving this accreditation, the second re-accreditation for the department, is a good indication that we’re on the right track, and meeting and surpassing established professional standards set for law enforcement.”

Chief Patrick Gallagher and officer Robert Benavidez, accreditation manager for LCPD, accepted the re-accreditation honors Thursday during the 25th Annual New Mexico Law Enforcement Conference in Albuquerque. The Las Cruces Police Department first earned accreditation from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Professional Standards Council in October 2013. Each accreditation is good for three years.

The mission of the New Mexico Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is the advance law enforcement professionalism through the establishment of professional standards and the administration of the formal mechanism by which New Mexico agencies can be systematically measured, evaluated and updated.

The New Mexico Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is sponsored by the New Mexico Association of Chiefs of Police, the New Mexico Municipal League, the New Mexico Association of Counties and the New Mexico Self Insurers’ Fund.
