Las Cruces Game Knights will be hosting their 7th annual Las Cruces Games Convention Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at the Las Cruces Convention Center. This event will feature a cosplay contest, a ramen eating contest, a canned food and charity donation drive, a martial arts demonstration, gaming opportunities and tournaments, vendors, special guests, and more! This year’s special guest will be Eric Wile, of the popular EverQuest game series.
In previous years, this event has attracted between 600 and 800 attendees. This family event will give attendees the opportunity to compete in their favorite video games as well as indulge in nostalgia, with vintage arcade machines and games to play. Confirmed for the video game tournaments are DragonBall Fighter Z, Overwatch, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
“We want to honor video games and place them in a light where they can be used in a positive and social way,” says event organizer Mario Sauceda, “Give an opportunity to those kids who grew up like me, with their parents telling them, ‘video games will take you nowhere,’ to make money and earn prizes by competing in tournaments for their favorite video games.”
The cosplay contest will feature several categories including games, anime, television, kids, comics, fantasy, group costumes, heroes and villains, sci-fi, and miscellaneous and original characters.
The hours for this event will be 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available for pre-sale on Eventbrite at a cost of $15 for both days. Tickets will also be available at the door at a cost of $25 at the door for both days or $20 for a Saturday-only pass. Veterans, firefighters, police officers, and active military can attend at no cost. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned foods for a drive to benefit the Gospel Rescue Mission.
