Local artist and professor Motoko Furuhashi will speak about her current work, which highlights the stress between the geometry of manmade objects and damages created through urban decay, at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, 491 North Main St.
Furuhashi was born in Tokyo, Japan and moved to the US to pursue a career as an artist and educator. While growing up in Tokyo, she received her introduction to art from hergrandfather. Her recent works have been inspired by her experiences traveling around the world with her family. She received her Master of Fine Art degree from the University ofIllinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, she is appointed as an assistant professor at NewMexico State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and the Oakland Museum of California.
