9-Month Old Severely Injured; Las Cruces Area Mother Wanted For Questioning

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives are searching for the mother of a nine-month-old baby boy after the infant reportedly suffered injuries consistent with great bodily harm.

Detectives would like to speak with the boy’s mother, 23-year-old Monique Rojas, but have been unable to locate her. According to a report, Rojas took her baby to Memorial Medical Center on May 8, but allegedly left the baby shortly after he was admitted. Due to the nature of the baby’s injuries, he was subsequently taken to an El Paso-area trauma center.

Family members told detectives the last contact they had with Rojas was on May 9. Rojas is currently on probation, which has since been revoked. A warrant for her arrest was issued last week.

Rojas is known to frequent the Tortugas area south of Las Cruces. She has black hair and brown eyes and is described as five feet, four inches tall, weighing approximately 122 pounds.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s detective assigned to the case, (575) 525-8812. Information can also be relayed to the Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority, (575) 526-0795.
