Las Cruces school bus drivers employed by a private company have ratified a new agreement. The AFT announced the vote in a press release, but did not disclose the terms of the deal.
American Federation of Teachers New Mexico President Stephanie Ly and Las Cruces Transportation Federation #6341 President Marcos Torres released the following statement:
“The agreement reached yesterday represents a significant step forward towards our goal of providing the safest possible environment for our students.
“We would like to thank the Las Cruces community, and especially parents of Las Cruces students, for their patience and support during these negotiations.
“We will still use our collective voices to push STS of New Mexico to increase safety measures for students as well as improved policies for attracting and retaining highly qualified equipment operators,” said Ly and Torres.
