For the third year in a row, the Las Cruces community and Branigan Library patrons have shown support for people in need this holiday season. Branigan Library was able to decorate the Holiday Mitten Tree with store-bought or homemade donations of: 112 hats; 138 glove and mitten sets; dozens of scarves and/or hat, scarf and glove sets; 20 brand-new jackets from the students at Los Montanas Charter High School; and multiple bags of warm clothing items from the Kiwanis Club and boxes of food for a total of 300+ items.
The Library began collecting these items after Thanksgiving, and accepted donations through December 21. Food and clothing items were shared among our local charitable and community organizations such as La Casa, Community of Hope and the Gospel Rescue Mission.
Renee Frankel, Library Administrator, said, “The Library staff thanks the local community and generosity of the people who donated. It was a great success once again.”
Last year, Branigan Library served more than 300,000 visitors who checked out more than 450,000 items. The Library is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, please call 575-528-4000.
