San Juan County prosecutors are declining to seek criminal charges against a Farmington police officer for shooting a man during a struggle in a hospital's emergency room.
Prosecutor Dustin O'Brien tells the Farmington Daily Times that Officer David Rock's actions during the Sept. 6 shooting at San Juan Regional Medical Center were reasonable and appropriate.
Rock shot 23-year-old Heriberto Nava-Martinez, who was at the hospital to have his blood tested and to be treated for wounds allegedly suffered during a joy ride.
Police said after the shooting that Nava-Martinez lunged at Rock and initiated a violent struggle
Rock's body camera video appeared to show the officer firing at Nava-Martinez after the suspect attempted to disarm him and flee.
Nava-Martinez survived the shooting and now faces criminal charges.
