Taos Artist To Showcase 'iPad Paintings' At Taos Exhibit

A Taos artist whose work sweeps from abstraction to representationalism is dipping into video-game art through iPad paintings.

The Albuquerque Journal reports the Taos Art Museum at Fechin House is hosting a retrospective exhibit on Jonathan Sobol that features some of his iPad artwork along with his oil pieces.

The iPad paintings are dye sublimation images printed into the surface of a solid sheet of aluminum with fidelity to the original digital image.

Sobol say his paintings are very big and very textural.

The "Jonathan Sobol Thirty in Thirty: Thirty Paintings from Thirty Years in Taos" exhibition will continue through Jan. 2.

Sobol grew up in the artist colony of Safed in the Galilee, Israel.
