If you listen to Morning Edition from NPR News on Fridays, you often hear personal stories brought to us by StoryCorps. Now, people around the Mesilla Valley have an opportunity to share their story and have it archived in the Library of Congress, because StoryCorps is coming to Las Cruces.
The StoryCorps airstream recording studio will be located at the Las Cruces Museum from January 4th -January 31st, 2016.
Jordan Bullard is the manager of the Storycorps Mobile Booth. Recently, while appearing as a guest on KRWG-TV’s Fronteras-A Changing America, Bullard shared some insight on how many people have their stories recorded and archived during each stop.
“We try to stay as busy as possible, so we record seven stories a day 5 days a week and that usually equals out to somewhere around 140 stories per city that we visit. It’s a conversational model, so we ask that two people come in that know each other well to share their story." Bullard says, "It could be a sibling, a spouse, grandmother, grandfather, somebody like that. That usually equals out to about 300 people are able to sort of experience telling their story, sharing their story in our airstream in any given city we visit and it should be the same here in Las Cruces.”
Participants must register in advance to record and archive their story, which they can do starting on December 21st at https://storycorps.org/reservations/
