A district attorney in southern New Mexico has unexpectedly resigned.
Diana A. Martwick, 12th Judicial District Attorney, announced her resignation in a press release on Thursday. The 12th Judicial District includes Otero and Lincoln counties.
The Alamogordo Daily News reports that Martwick wrote in the release that it is time for her to pursue other opportunities in New Mexico. She says her resignation is effective January 2.
Martwick was the first woman elected to the district's DA position. She was first elected in 2008 and won a second term in 2012.
Martwick did not return calls from the Daily News requesting comment.
