Las Cruces High School To Hold Open House Saturday

LAS CRUCES – The first phase of the Las Cruces High School renovation project is finished and the school is opening its doors so that the community can take a look at the new facilities.  A community open house will be held Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Principal Jed Hendee.  Visitors should enter the school on the east side of El Paseo where the new sky bridge is located.

Hendee said every half hour beginning at 10 a.m., students will give tours of the new academic buildings, the sky bridge, the administrative area, the multimedia/library center and performing arts laboratory.  The last tour will begin at 1 p.m.  Refreshments will also be provided.

“We have heard from many residents who are interested in seeing the school,” Hendee said.  “We’re proud of how it turned out and we’d love to share it with anyone who wants to stop by.”

The new construction was designed by Alley Associates of Las Cruces and built by Wooten Sundt Construction, a joint venture between Wooten Construction of Las Cruces and Sundt Construction of Tempe, Arizona, said Gloria Martinez, LCPS Construction Projects Director.

Martinez said construction of phase II of the LCHS renovation project will begin next spring, with completion expected in December 2017.  A new cafeteria, auxiliary gym and tennis courts will be built.  Several of the older buildings also will be renovated, Martinez said.

Local voters in prior school bond elections approved funds for the total project, estimated at $82 million.  State matching funding was also awarded from the Public School Capital Outlay Council, officials said.
