Las Cruces City Council Candidate Fails To Meet Deadline To Reimburse City For Recount

Richard Hall

Only one of two unsuccessful candidates for Las Cruces City Council who requested a recount met the 5 p.m., Dec. 3 deadline to reimburse the Las Cruces City Clerk’s office a portion of the $5,368.08 it cost to conduct a recount of ballots cast in six voting convenience centers during the Nov. 3 Las Cruces municipal election.

Melecio Guzman, who sought the Dist. 1 City Council seat, submitted a check for $1,804.40.

Richard Hall, who ran in District 4, submitted a letter of response signed by both men.

In a release, the city said Guzman and Hall are both jointly and severally liable for the cost of the Nov. 18 recount.
