Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Garners Top Award

The New Mexico Clean and Beautiful program and Keep America Beautiful recently honored Keep Las Cruces Beautiful as the state’s Outstanding Program of 2014.

The award was presented Oct. 21 during the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful affiliates’ conference in Roswell, N.M.

In 2014, KLCB held two community cleanups – the Great American Cleanup and the Toss No Mas citywide cleanup – that organized 2,300 volunteers who collected more than 20 tons of trash from within city limits.

KLCB also partners with the Juvenile Citation Program to eradicate graffiti and paint murals within the city. KLCB helps equip Volunteer Tree Stewards and several City of Las Cruces departments for Arbor Day when trees and other vegetation are planted throughout the community.

And KLCB partners with Las Cruces Public Schools and the City of Las Cruces to educate youth in recycling, limiting litter, reporting graffiti and beautifying our neighborhoods. LIBBY, KLCB’s yellow Labrador retriever, visits numerous classrooms throughout the year.

KLCB is directed by James Woods, KLCB coordinator, and is part of the Las Cruces Police Department’s Codes Enforcement office.
