Child Injured In Boat Crash With US Border Patrol Agents

The Mexican Consulate says a Mexican child suffered "grave injuries" in a collision in the Rio Grande between a private boat the child was in and one with U.S. Border Patrol agents.

U.S. Border Patrol has said there were four people aboard the private boat involved in the Sunday collision. The Mexican Consulate in McAllen said Wednesday that two of those passengers were children.

Two Border Patrol agents were injured when they were ejected from their boat. Border Patrol spokesman Oscar Saldana said Wednesday that one of the agents was released from the hospital Monday. The other, who broke his leg, remains hospitalized Wednesday following surgery.

The Border Patrol has said that as agents arrived to help the injured, people on the Mexican river bank threw rocks at them.
