A vehicle vs. pedestrian crash Wednesday evening sent a 30-year-old man to an El Paso hospital.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, Las Cruces Police were called to Idaho Avenue where the crash occurred. The 30-year-old pedestrian had multiple injuries to his head and was unresponsive when he was transported to Memorial Medical Center. He was then airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso.

His injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, and he was said to be alert and talking Thursdaymorning.

Las Cruces Police learned that the 30-year-old man was walking south across Idaho in a designated and marked crosswalk. The van had been traveling north on Esperanza Street and was turning west onto Idaho when the collision occurred.

The 59-year-old man who was driving the van remained on scene and was cooperative with traffic investigators. Alcohol and speed were not contributing factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and citations are pending.
