Robert Rentschler has been selected as mayor of Alamogordo, possibly becoming the last one to be selected by the City Commission.
The Alamogordo Daily News reports that voters of the southern New Mexico city decided last year to directly elect the mayor. That'll happen in the March 4 general election.
For now, Rentschler takes the place of Commissioner Susie Galea, who had been mayor for about 18 months.
Galea is expected to run for mayor in the next election.
The reorganization of the commission on Tuesday was spurred on by the sudden resignation of Al Hernandez as mayor pro-tem last month. Commissioner Jason Baldwin replaced Hernandez as mayor pro-tem.
