San Juan County commissioners and the Farmington City Council are taking opposite positions on a plan to shut down two for the four units of the coal-fired San Juan Generating Station near Farmington.
The Daily Times reports that the county commission on Tuesday approved a resolution supporting the plan while the Farmington council the same day passed a resolution opposing the plan.
The plan negotiated by environmental regulators and PNM would reduce how much the plant's operators would have to pay to install costly anti-pollution equipment.
County Commissioner Jack Fortner says he feared that opposition to the plan could lead to a total closure of the plant.
