LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A body found at New Mexico State University has been identified as a Las Cruces businessman who operated restaurants not far from campus.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports NMSU Police say 32-year-old La Var Washington, whose birthday was Sunday, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was discovered Monday in a car in a university parking lot.
Deputy Chief of Police Andy Bowen says authorities are still investigating Washington's death but they don't suspect foul play.
Washington, who attended NMSU, owned two locations of the Chicago SW Street Grill. A third restaurant he ran recently closed.
Police say Washington's body will be taken to Albuquerque for an official autopsy.
