Las Cruces – Las Cruces Fire Department Engine 5 was involved in a single vehicle accident while responding to an emergency incident late Friday evening.
While responding to a weather related motor vehicle accident on Del Rey Blvd., Engine 5 encountered an icy section of road which caused it to slide sideways and roll onto its' passenger side. The three firefighters responding to the emergency were uninjured and got out safely however, the fire engine sustained extensive damage and has been placed out of service indefinitely.
The Las Cruces Fire Department would like to remind drivers that even with the most cautious and defensive driving, accidents can still happen during inclement weather. Please remember to avoid driving in inclement weather whenever possible and drive very cautiously if you must travel during winter weather events.
