El Paso Homeless Man Dies In Wintry Weather

By KRWG News

El Paso, Texas – EL PASO, Texas (KRWG) Officials say a homeless man was found dead on a busy street in West Texas after temperatures dropped below freezing during a winter storm.

El Paso Fire Department spokesman John Concha said the unidentified man found early Monday was believed to be about 70 years old.

Concha said the cause of death was pending Tuesday, and temperatures were in the low 30s when the body was found.

Authorities said icy roads led to more than 250 traffic accidents Monday and Tuesday in El Paso.

Elsewhere in Texas, Austin police say rain was apparently a factor in two traffic-related deaths Monday.

Schools, universities and government offices in West Texas delayed their schedules due to freezing weather.

The National Weather Service says single-digit temperatures were recorded Tuesday in Amarillo.
