New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) New Mexico regulators are set to consider a petition by utilities and industry groups that are seeking to repeal a regulation aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions around the state.
A hearing is scheduled to begin Monday before the state Environmental Improvement Board.
It's the second hearing in as many months regarding the emissions rules that were approved last year.
The board finished taking testimony in November on a petition to dissolve the state's plan to participate in a regional cap-and-trade program.
This time, the panel will consider a petition to repeal the emissions trimming rule first proposed by the environmental group New Energy Economy.
Critics contend the rules will have a negative impact on New Mexico's economy. New Energy Economy executive director Mariel Nanasi argues that energy prices will not increase.
