Unemployment Rate Holds At 6.6 Percent

By KRWG News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions says the rate was unchanged from August but down from 8.6 percent a year ago and lower than the national rate of 9.1 percent.

Previously, New Mexico's unemployment rate had fallen for six consecutive months after peaking at 8.7 percent at the beginning of the year.

Job growth for the month, compared to September of 2010, was 0.2 percent, representing an increase of 1,700 jobs. The gain marked the fourth straight month of job growth following 32 months of losses.

State officials say a number of industries are now cautiously adding jobs, but there is continuing evidence of restraint.
