Deming, New Mexico – DEMING, N.M. (KRWG) U.S. Customs and Border Protection is welcoming seven newly certified horseback riders for the horse patrol unit at the Deming Border Patrol Station.
The new horseback riders announced Monday is aimed at helping agents in rugged and remote terrains that surround the border between the U.S. and Mexico.
Horse Patrol members are trained to ride and provide their horses with proper maintenance and care. Members were required to complete a six-week training course.
Horse Patrol units predate the formal establishment of the U.S. Border Patrol in 1924.
