New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) The state Supreme Court has resolved a dispute between Republicans and Democrats by consolidating redistricting lawsuits in Santa Fe and naming a retired judge to handle the cases.
The court on Wednesday assigned all redistricting lawsuits to the 1st Judicial District in Santa Fe and said retired District Court Judge James Hall will preside over the cases.
The court's decision came after Democrats and Republicans disagreed on where their redistricting lawsuits should be heard. Democrats wanted the cases in Santa Fe. GOP Gov. Susana Martinez and the secretary of state wanted the cases in the 2nd Judicial District in Albuquerque. Some Republicans preferred Lovington but said Albuquerque was better than Santa Fe.
Hall retired as a district judge in Santa Fe in 2009.
