Silver City – A statewide event for New Mexico is coming to Silver City next week.
As Fred Martino reports, it will mark the annual launch of a federal career program.
Next Thursday through Saturday, The Wellness Coalition will be
hosting the statewide AmeriCorps Launch in Silver City.
Each year, a different AmeriCorps program is selected to host the launch.
The New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism selected The
Wellness Coalition, a program that's been operating since 2004 and has grown to become one of the largest in the state with 88 members this coming year.
With the challenging job market, Coalition Director Sam Castello says AmeriCorps is more important than ever.
Members from AmeriCorps Programs across the state including Teach for America and The New Mexico School for the Deaf will train and serve as they prepare for a year of giving back to their local communities.
The three day event culminates on Saturday, October 22 with Make A Difference Day.
