New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) New Mexico Magazine's new editor-in-chief is veteran journalist Dave Herndon, a former editor at several national magazines and New York newspapers.
The magazine is a part of the state Tourism Department and has a paid circulation of 89,000.
Herndon will be paid $92,000 a year. He replaces Tricia Ware, who was editor-in-chief since 2007.
Herndon has been living in Florida. He was editor-in-chief of Caribbean Travel & Life magazine in 2007-2009 and features editor at Sports Afield in 1998-2000. He was features editor at New York Newsday in 1989-1993, and managing editor of The Village Voice in 1986-1988.
Agency spokesman Mike Stauffer said in a statement that Gov. Susana Martinez's administration changed the magazine's top editor because "we wanted someone who can take it to the next level."
