New Mexico – State Auditor Hector Balderas has announced he's running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Jeff Bingaman.
Balderas, a Democrat, made his announcement Tuesday in an email and video to supporters.
Balderas was elected in 2010 to a second term as auditor. He is a lawyer from Wagon Mound in northern New Mexico and served in the state House of Representatives.
In his announcement video filmed in his hometown, Balderas pledged "to bring more Wagon Mound values to Washington, D.C."
Democratic Congressman Martin Heinrich also is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Senate along with Albuquerque political activist Andres Valdez.
Former Congresswoman Heather Wilson is running for the Republican nomination along with Las Cruces businessmen Greg Sowards and Bill English of Alamogordo.
