Las Cruces, NM – Senior Congressional officials say they are close to a compromise on a joint version of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act or FISA. Previous FISA legislation expired February 16th and debates over new legislation have created a stalemate in Congress. The legislation would provide retro-active immunity for telecommunications companies involved in wiretapping at the government's request post September 11, 2001. The senate's version of the FISA legislation called for immunity, the house bill did not.
