"Performing the Work of Arts" Since 1971 - Doña Ana Arts Council and RenFaire

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra spoke with Doña Ana Arts Council Board President, Dr. Dan Lere, celebrating 50 years of the Arts Council and the Renaissance ArtsFaire since 1971 – “Performing the Work of Arts.” Both started separately, RenFaire had been the Holy Cross CraftsFaire and eventually came under the Arts Council as the Renaissance ArtsFaire, which will again be celebrated in Young Park this year (pandemic allowing) November 6 & 7.

Lere spoke about the impact of the arts in the economy and the support from the community.  The Arts Council will celebrate 2021 as “The Year of the Artist” with “The Arts 100” as an opportunity for community members to invest in the arts in this area. Other subjects can be found at daarts.org and Facebook, such as: Summer Youth programs (career Art Paths, Missoula Children’s Theatre, Opera Storytellers Camp); Dawn of Discovery program collaborating with the NMSU Museum of Art, Spaceport America, and the Kennedy Center Partners in Education (among others) benefitting third graders at Monte Vista Elementary School.
