La Academia Dolores Huerta Charter Middle School Open Enrollment

Sylvy Galvan de Lucero at KRWG FM studios.

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra met with “La Academia Dolores Huerta” Interim Head Administrator, Sylvy Galvan de Lucero. La Academia Dolores Huerta (LADH) is a dual language charter middle school for grades 6, 7, 8. It is a tuition-free public school established in 2004. LADH is the only charter middle school in New Mexico and now serves 120 students from the Las Cruces Area. The school was named after labor union activist, Dolores Huerta, from Northern New Mexico. She worked with Cesar Chavez for over thirty years.

Besides teaching the Common Core Aligned Curriculum to help build students’ academic achievement, LADH also focuses on a culturally diverse education program in the arts and languages, Mariachi music and Ballet Folklorico; and recently added a Creative Digital Media Course. They are at a new location – 400 Bell Avenue in Las Cruces within a pecan orchard. The Spring Semester began January 8th, but they have an Open Enrollment and are still receiving registrations. More information available at LADH.org and on Facebook at Ladh Ladh.
