AARP - 45 years in Las Cruces

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra met with AARP Las Cruces Chapter Volunteer President and member of the AARP State Executive Council, David Lynch. Founded in 1958 by retired educator, Ethel Percy Andrus. AARP was formerly known as American Association of Retired Persons to advocate on behalf of senior citizens. Currently there are 38 million members nationally, and 300,000 in New Mexico. The Las Cruces Chapter started 45 years ago to help people choose how they live as they age. They do not have an office in Las Cruces but do have a presence in the community at the Las Cruces Farmers’ Market every first Saturday of the month, with Chapter meetings every third Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, their next meeting will be October 17th. They also have a partnership with Memorial Medical Center and Natural Grocers to with specific presentations on various subjects such as fraud watch, voter engagement and driver safety programs.
