A free course focused on helping young people who are experiencing mental health or substance abuse problems will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 and Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019 at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is being offered to the community by Western Sky Community Care, a managed care organization that exists to improve the health of its beneficiaries through focused, compassionate and coordinated care. Western Sky Community Care is a subsidiary of Centene Corporation.
The course will be taught in Conference Room 2007-C at City Hall. Registration will be required. Each class size will be limited to the first 30 individuals, 18-years old and older, who sign up. Although there is no cost to participate, the course is valued at $170 per person.

The National Council for Behavioral Health certifies individuals throughout the U.S. to provide Mental Health First Aid courses to prepare their communities with the knowledge and skills to help individuals who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis such as depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance abuse. The training helps the public to better identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses.
