Your Chance To Speak About Access To New Mexico Waterways At Friday Meeting In Las Cruces

facebook.com/nmdgf

Commentary: The Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project has been organizing and serving underserved New Mexico youth for three years. Our goal is to provide more Hispanic and low-income youth and their families with opportunities to enjoy their outdoors, state lands, state parks, public waterways and more. We engage youth in hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and cultural learning opportunities throughout the year with the goal of creating access and opportunities for them to continue our state’s rich outdoor traditions.

Because access is of great importance to our organization and the communities we serve, The Nuestra Tierra Conservation Projectstands with the Hispanic communities across New Mexico and the greater Frontera. Compared to other Americans, Hispanic communities across the state of New Mexico and the country already disproportionatly lack access to public lands and waters. The previous Game Commission, under former Governor Martinez, late last year approved five certifications under a rule the Game Commission enacted in 2017, the certification required members of the public to gain written permission from the landowner before boating, fishing, floating or otherwise using New Mexico waters. The Game Commission’s rules to privatize public rivers were passed without input from stream recreation interests, the minimum legal notices was the only public outreach conducted by the commission.

Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project would welcome you all to join us on Friday, January 17, 2020, beginning at 9:00 a.m., at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, Ventanas Room, 4100 Dripping Springs Rd, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88011, the State Game Commission will meet in public session.

Copies of the agenda can be obtained from the, State Wildlife Department website, or by contacting the Office of the Director, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, P.O. Box 25112, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87504. If you are an individual with a disability who is in need of a translator, amplifier, qualified sign language interpreter, or any other form of auxiliary aid or service to attend or participate in the hearing or meeting, please contact the Department or the Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project as soon as possible.
