The University of Texas at El Paso and the City of El Paso have formed a partnership to help the community get tested for COVID-19.

Beginning Oct. 21, 2020, UTEP will host a drive-through State Testing Site open to the public at the Schuster 1 parking lot off Schuster Avenue at the Spur 1966 roundabout, on the south side of campus.

The drive-through will be available for all El Pasoans from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Sunday.

“During these unprecedented times, our focus and priority remains on the health and safety of our residents. This includes making more testing sites available to address the demand during this surge in new cases,” said El Paso Mayor Dee Margo. “This partnership with UTEP will further enhance our response to the pandemic.”

“We hope this alliance between UTEP and city and county public health officials will help our community suppress the coronavirus and recover,” said UTEP President Heather Wilson. “We remain committed to supporting the efforts of the city to ensure El Paso remains a safe place to work, live and learn.”

There are currently three State Testing sites in El Paso and the City is working with the state to add more sites. Currently the state sites available include El Paso Community College Valle Verde Campus, 919 Hunter Dr.; Nation Tobin Recreation Center, 8831 Railroad Dr.; and SISD’s Student Activities Complex, 1300 Joe Battle Blvd.

Testing is free and available for anyone 5 years and older with or without symptoms. Results will be provided via email within 3-5 days. If residents do not have an email address, they will be notified via phone call. No appointments are needed; however, once the daily capacity is met, the site will close for the day to additional testing.
