State Predicts At Least 13 COVID Related Deaths A Day Over Next Two Weeks

CDC

“I grieve for every single New Mexican that we've lost,” Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said. “We've lowered our flags to mourn.”

Grisham addressed the increase in COVID-19 deaths in the state during her most recent press conference, following a rise in cases that has led to over 1,000 COVID related deaths.

State Human Services Department Cabinet Secretary Dr. David Scrase is predicting that the number will continue to rise.

“We're expecting at least 13 or more deaths over the next two weeks each day,” Scrase said. “A very, very worrisome trend.”

The governor stressed that new restrictions for New Mexicans will have to be imposed if the situation does not improve.

“It's too late for November. Too many New Mexicans will lose their lives right now through November,” Grisham said. “Too many health care workers will be exhausted, infected and will have significant risk of taking infections to their own families. Too late to stop that.”
