New Mexico Senator Won't Seek Re-Election After 4 Terms

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Sen. Mark Boitano says after 16 years of serving in the New Mexico Senate, he won't seek re-election and will step aside at the end of his term.

Boitano is a Republican who has represented District 18 around the Northeast and Far Northeast Heights of Albuquerque since 1997.

Since that time, he has run unchallenged.

Boitano is the ranking member of the Corporations and Transportations Committee and also served on the Senate Education Committee and Senate Public Affairs Committee.

He announced Monday that he's always believed in term limits and it's time to move on and allow others to continue the fight in the Senate to improve New Mexico.

Boitano says he has a real estate business to run and wants to spend more time with his wife and children.
